Blessed Damien of Molokai
Knights of Columbus Council 11411
C/O Saint Anne Church
1600 Mt. Hope Ave., Rochester, NY 14620
About Blessed Damien of Molokai Council
Our council was founded in 1994 through the
efforts of Tony Day, William Boyde, and
Father Frank E. Lioi. It was named after
Blessed Damien of Molokai to pay tribute to
Blessed Damien and his brave efforts to look
after God’s less fortunate people suffering
from leprosy. Blessed Damien was a quiet
hero, a relentless guardian of the oppressed.
Damien of Molokai, the leper priest, inspired
his own times and still serves as a symbol of
charity in the new age. Council 11411 can
proudly be known as Blessed Damien of
Molokai Council as it seeks to show care and
concern for those most in need.
A Varied Fraternal & Charitable Program
Our council hosts a large number of activities
throughout the year including soccer and
basketball events for boys and girls 10-14,
fish dinners during Lent, a Wine and Food
Gala usually in the Spring, and pancake
breakfasts in the October, December, and
February. Various fund raising activities
include a fresh fruit sale just before
Christmas and, in 2008, a car wash to raise
funds for a foreign mission. An Advent
'sacrificial giving' fund drive is held each year
in support of Project Rachel, a spiritual
healing program for women --and men-- who
have experienced abortion. The 2008
Knights' Oktoberfest raised $300 for the
Benincasa Home Hospice in Mendon, NY.
Council 11411 also takes Monroe
Community Hospital patients from their
rooms down to Mass on the Sundays in
August each year, provides a Christmas time
dinner at a homeless shelter, conducts
clothing or food drives during the fall, and
volunteers for various other charitable
causes. A memorial Mass is held in
November each year for all deceased
Knights; members also hold a prayer service
at the funeral home of any deceased Knight.
The Knights also sponsor a public Rosary for
Priestly Vocations four times a year at which
guest priests and others give reflections on
each of the five mysteries prayed. One of the
Lenten Stations of the Cross at Saint Anne
Church each year is designated "Knights of
Columbus Night" and serves as one way for
Knights to come together to observe the holy
season of Lent. A golf tournament and
Council picnic are held annually. New
activities are regularly introduced such as an
Oktoberfest dinner in 2006 and the Rosaries
for Priestly Vocations in 2007.
